NetStores E-Commerce Extensions

Add to Cart With Options

Overview

The NetStores E-Commerce system uses a shopping cart that allows your customers to add to, modify, and view the list of products they will purchase from your online Web store. The optional method for adding items to a customer's shopping cart is the NetStores Add-to-Cart With Options or instant-purchase button with item options selected from drop-down menus.

Before you use this...

Before you start using the Add-to-Cart With Options feature, if you have not already done this, select the NetStores objects from the Dreamweaver Insert panel by selecting the NetStores tab.

   .

For the Add-to-Cart With Options button to work, you must first perform Steps 1-7 (start at Step 1 - Setup).

Adding the Shopping Cart button to a page (top)

To insert an instant-purchase button, position the cursor next to a product in your Web page where you want the button and click the Add-to-Cart With Options icon in the NetStores objects panel.

The NetStores Add-to-Cart With Options dialog box (see picture below) allows you to configure the Add-to-Cart With Options button so a particular product or service will be added to the customer's shopping cart based on the options they select from drop-down menus. The dialog box also allows you to customize the Add-to-Cart With Options button to suit your aesthetic preferences to match the "look and feel" of your Web site.

Shopping cart button details (top)

The most important aspect of the NetStores Add-to-Cart With Options dialog box is the menu editing area. For your Add-to-Cart With Options button actually to be able to add products to the customer's shopping cart, any value returned by an option menu must be all or part of a product code of an item from your inventory in the item file. If an button has more than one option menu, the values returned by all of the option menu will be combined together by the cart and when combined, must equal a product code of an item from your inventory in the item file.

To add an option menu to the instant-purchase button, click on the Use Option Menu check box for that menu. To edit an option menu, click on the Edit Menu button for that menu, this brings up the NetStores Add-to-Cart With Options Menu Editor dialog box (see below) for that menu. To add a label to the option menu, add the text for the label in the Menu Label text field for that menu. (The label will appear to the left of the option menu.)

Customizing the appearance of the Add-to-Cart With Options button (top)

You can also change the appearance of the Add-to-Cart With Options button by selecting your own text or image for the button. To make these modifications, insert entries in the NetStores Add-to-Cart With Options dialog box (see picture above) as follows:

Button text entry: Changing this entry changes the text on the Add-to-Cart With Options input button on your Web page, if you are not using an image to replace the button.

Use Image check box: Clicking the check box changes the Add-to-Cart With Options link on your Web page from a simple input button to an image that you provide. You must also enter a file name in the Image text box.

Image entry: Enter the name of an image to use as the Add-to-Cart With Options link. You can browse for the file name using the Browse button. For the image to be used, you must also click the Use Image check box.

The settings you used when you last created an Add-to-Cart With Options button (by clicking OK), are saved and will reappear the next time you use the Add-to-Cart With Options object.

Option menu editing details

An option menu is edited by using the NetStores Add-to-Cart With Options Menu Editor dialog box (see below). The menu is edited in a text area box with one option item from the menu on each line. Each option item has the text that is shown by the menu, an equals sign, and then the value that will be returned for the option. The option menu will be generated from top to bottom from the option items. The menu is saved by clicking OK, and will reappear the next time you use the Add-to-Cart With Options Menu Editor to edit that menu.

Option menu example

This is the example of an instant-purchase button with multiple drop-down menus to select options from our HTML integration page:
Size: Color:

Item file for the example:

Code Price Name Description Category
SHIRT.LARGE.RED 18.95 Large Red Shirt The name says it all! Shirts
SHIRT.LARGE.BLUE 18.95 Large Blue Shirt The name says it all! Shirts
SHIRT.HUGE.RED 19.95 Huge Red Shirt The name says it all! Shirts
SHIRT.HUGE.BLUE 19.95 Huge Blue Shirt The name says it all! Shirts

To set this up, the Add to Cart With Options dialog box would look like this:

Editing the first menu would look like this:

And, editing the second menu would look like this:

The settings shown in the above three dialog boxes of this example would recreate the Add to Cart With Options button given at the beginning of this example.

Also, the dots in the example's product codes don't have any particular significance, you can can create option menu for product code without dots.
